KI REVIEW
I offer shiatsu along with a ki energy health evaluation, supported by basic macrobiotic dietary and way of life guidance, in Fairfield, CT, and Manhattan. I also offer classes in Five Transformations theory and Nine Star Ki, from my personal viewpoint. For further information, please contact me at Tel: 203-254-1795.
I am taking appointments for housecalls in Manhattan on Thursdays and Saturdays.
While based on my understanding of the macrobiotic teachings of Georges Ohsawa and Michio Kushi, and of Daoist and Buddhist thought, my blog entries, unless mentioned otherwise, are original material following my personal line of thought, the result of in-depth research over many years. I hope you enjoy this material, find it informative, educational, interesting and helpful. But please, if you pass any information from this blog on in any way, whether complimentary, critical, or otherwise, be sure to mention my name and the website address, so others can decide for themselves. Thank you.

André the Giant, 9 Fire ☲
(5.19.1946, Coulommiers, Seine-et-Marne, France – 1.27.1993): French professional wrestler and actor.
Freeman's Alley, NYC, 5.8.2017
Were he still alive, André would have turned 71 this week. There are two ki issues concerning him. First, a fire can become huge. Bigness is a common theme that appears in numerous ways in 9 Fire year people. In his case it was his physical size, due to a condition called “acromegaly” where the pituitary gland overproduces growth hormone. According to his Wikipedia entry, he weighed 542 lbs., and was somewhere between 6ft 11 inches and 7 feet 4 inches in height. There were other issues regarding bigness in his Wikipedia entry. According to the 1974 Guinness Book of World Records he was the highest-paid wrestler in history at that time earning US $400,000 in one year in the early 1970’s. He was also unofficially crowned “the greatest drunk on Earth” for once consuming 119 12 US-fluid-ounce beers in 6 hours. Second, relates to his cause of death; congestive heart failure. In classical Chinese medicine, the heart corresponds with Fire, and from my research, more 9 Fire year births by a large percentage, suffer from heart and circulatory disorders, than those born in any other Energetic year.

ARCHITECTURE
The May 2017 issue of Architectural Record, has a feature “Stacking the Deck”, by Joann Gonchar, on a new 57-story residential tower in the Tribeca neighborhood of Lower Manhattan: “56 Leonard Street”. It is designed by the Pritzker Prize winners and friends since childhood, Jacques Herzog (b. 4.19.1950, Basel, Switzerland), and Pierre de Meuron (b. 5.8.1950, Basel, Switzerland) (Wikipedia). Both were born in a 5 Soil year. Soil occupies the center position in Five Transformations theory, and 5 Soil occupies the center place in what is known as the “magic square” in Nine Star Ki. Center allows for a direct and equal connection with all other numbers, which in turn implies 5 as the balance point. With this thought in mind, I found the comments by the author to be most insightful as an expression of their Soil energy:
‘Ascan Mergenthaler, a Herzog & de Meuron partner, says that the idea behind the unusual cantilevering geometry was not to defy gravity, but to design the units from the inside out and then express the individual apartments and their generous outdoor spaces in the form of the architecture. … Although 56 Leonard has been referred to as “Jenga-like” countless times in the press, the result is an assemblage that appears carefully balanced in equilibrium rather than on the verge of toppling over.’
· “… design the units from the inside out …”:
“From the inside out” suggests two things to me. First, that they are designing from the center, and second, in connection with this, that there is substance (like the earth), meaning it will be practical, it will work, which might not happen if one designs with appearances first in mind (leaving a vacant center).
· “… an assemblage that appears carefully balanced in equilibrium rather than on the verge of toppling over.”:
Apart from the comments I have already made regarding balance, I find it interesting that they have actually chosen to walk such a fine line of balance seen in the contrast of the two underlined elements of this quote.
